Patenting costs targeting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), universities and public research organisations will remain unchanged in 2023, despite an expected 5% increase in filing fees at the European Patent Office (EPO), the Bulgarian Patent Office said Monday.
This is set out in the EPO's 2023 Strategic Plan, according to which a package of support measures will be implemented in close cooperation with national patent offices. The plan was endorsed by the Bulgarian Patent Office in the framework of the EPO Administrative Council, which took place on December 13-14 in Munich, Germany, the Patent Office said.
During the meeting Prof. Vladia Borisova, President of the Bulgarian Patent Office, said that the Strategic Plan for 2023 will focus on new tools and digital processes that will certainly increase efficiency and quality in all areas of the EPO's activities, from which enterprises and businesses can benefit. She added that the Bulgarian Office will continue its efforts in the coming year to reveal to the public the potential of the unitary patent for innovation, investment, and technology transfer.
