site.btaSeaside Airports Report 59% Increase in Passengers Handled in 2022

In 2022, the airports of Varna and Burgas (on the Black Sea) handled 3.1 million passengers on 23,700 regular and charter flights of 72 Bulgarian and foreign air carriers to various destinations in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, concessionaire Fraport Twin Star Airport Management said. 2022 saw a 59% increase in passenger numbers from 2021.

Top Destinations

Burgas Airport handled 1,630,000 passengers, up by 72% from 2021. The concessionaire's data show flights were conducted by 50 air carriers to 85 destinations. The five countries with the largest number of passengers to Burgas Airport were Poland (421,000), the UK (372,000), Czechia (201,000), Germany (155,000) and Israel (79,000). Correspondingly, the destinations to which the most passengers travelled from Burgas Airport were London, Warsaw, Prague, Katowice and Tel Aviv.

Cargo

The cargo and mail handled in 2022 by Burgas Airport totalled 6,244 tonnes, Fraport Twin Star Airport Management  added.
