Bulgaria plans to ask for additional funds under the European REPowerEU plan, and according to rough estimates it can hope to receive half a billion euro, said Caretaker Energy Minister Rossen Hristov during Question Time in Parliament answering a question from MP Ilina Mutafchieva from Democratic Bulgaria. In Hristov's words, our country will present projects and may get approval even for a larger amount.
These projects are related to energy efficiency, replacing the use of natural gas with other renewable gases, including green hydrogen. He pointed out that Bulgarian projects should be aligned with those of the European Union and other countries in order to achieve a common goal.
Hristov said that Bulgaria will join the initiatives envisaged under the REPowerEU plan, which is focused on reducing dependence on Russian gas and fossil fuels. Hristov specified that the European Union has provided funds under it, and each member state should submit projects meeting these priorities. These projects are also to be integrated into the national recovery and resilience plans. This is also an opportunity to optimizze these plans in general, according to the caretaker minister.
