A number of important projects in the field of transport infrastructure will be implemented in Burgas Region in the new programming period from 2021 to 2027, Martin Georgiev, leader of the managing authority for the Transport Connectivity Programme 2021-2027, said in a video message to the first regional conference of the EU-backed BTA project Europe in Bulgaria: A Common Future, which took place in Burgas.
One of the projects is a railway which will link the city of Burgas to the international airport at Sarafovo. The railway will be built in a way that integrates it into the city's transport network, Georgiev said.
Another important undertaking is to complete the rehabilitation of the railway between Burgas and the second-largest Bulgarian city of Plovdiv in the south of the country. Investments are also planned in multimodal transport, in upgrading the safety of all modes of transport, and in promoting the use of alternative fuels, Georgiev said.
