Statistics about the illegal logging inspections and fines issued by forest rangers and the Executive Forest Agency (EFA) show that control was enhanced and more efficient in 2022. Over 320,000 inspections were carried out by the Agency’s officers and regional structures, which is 28% more compared to 2021, EFA said here on Wednesday.

Fines have also increased by over 22% compared to 2021, reaching 7,000 in 2022. The ratio between inspections and fines issued over the past two years shows that violations have slightly decreased compared to the previous year.

As a result of the established forestry legislation violations across logging sites, a total of 259 logging suspension orders were issued, while the operations were suspended of 21 sites for tibler processing and sale.
A significant 184% year-on-year increase was reported in the established illegally harvested timber, which added up to 18,120 cu m last year.
