A national energy strategy for the next 30 years will be unveiled at the Ministry of Energy on Tuesday. It will be subjected to a broad public discussion, all interested parties - trade unions, industry organizations, representatives of the parliamentary committee on energy will be invited, said caretaker Energy Minister Rosen Hristov on Bulgarian National Radio on Sunday. The caretaker government plans to submit this strategy to the National Assembly. If this parliament adopts the strategy, it will be a guarantee that the energy sector will continue to develop according to a clear plan, Hristov said.
Bulgaria should continue to develop its nuclear energy - this is one of the ideas of the energy ministry. The minister commented on this week’s decision of the National Assembly to build a new nuclear unit in Kozloduy. “Our strategy until 2050 envisages the construction of four new nuclear units,” said Hristov. He also commented on the decision of the National Assembly to try to renegotiate the commitments under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan about coal-fired power plants. He is optimistic that the renegotiation can happen because Bulgaria's demands do not run counter to the overall strategy of the European Union.
The minister also spoke about a project to build an oil pipeline between Alexandroupolis and Burgas. Bulgaria and Greece are about to sign a memorandum to start the project. A joint working group is to be set up by the two countries to assess the project.
