President Rumen Radev Tuesday opened a round table on a Bulgarian energy strategy in 2023-2053. Experts, state officials, and political parties are discussing a draft strategy on the development of the Bulgarian energy sector in the next 30 years, elaborated by the caretaker government. The forum is organized in Sofia by the Energy Ministry.

Caretaker Prime Minister Galab Donev and caretaker Energy Minister Rossen Hristov are among the participants.

Opening the forum, Radev said that Bulgaria cannot afford any more timelessness and that the preparation of an energy strategy, by a caretaker government or a regular one, is "our common responsibility and we need to sit together and think about the future of Bulgaria".

He said that Bulgaria has emerged as a centre of stability in the region "in a whirlwind of crises", and has been an energy supplier for many countries in the region. "The question is how to continue this policy from now on,"

The President said that he "only contributed" his views about what the targets and principles in the preparation of the energy strategy. Among those is preserving maximum independence and autonomy of the Bulgarian energy industry and using the available technologies, capacity and human resources.

The President also believes that it is important to use to the full the available natural resources and diversify energy resources to a maximum extent.

A key aspect in the proposed strategy is attracting globally established technological solutions, a balanced approach to digital and green energy, involvement of the research potential and efficient use of EU and national instruments.
