site.btaSliven Hosts First Local Conference of BTA's EU-Backed Europe in Bulgaria Project

The first local conference of the new EU-backed BTA project titled "Europe in Bulgaria: A Common Future" was held at the BTA Press Club in Sliven, Southeastern Bulgaria, Tuesday. The venue outlined the perspectives and strategies for the development of Bulgaria's South East Region and the cohesion policy for the new programming period 0f 2021-2027, as well as the place of Sliven Region within that frame. The participants also presented the results achieved and good practices from the previous programming period of 2014-2020.

Speakers in the conference included Sliven Regional Governor Mincho Afuzov, Sliven Municipality Deputy Mayor in charge of economic development Stoyan Markov, Tvarditsa Municipality Mayor Atanas Atanasov, Nova Zagora Mayor Nina Gencheva, Kotel Deputy Mayor Rumen Stoilov and the Manager of Sliven Regional Information Centre, Vesela Omainikova.

The aim of the project Europe in Bulgaria: A Common Future is to provide information to the general public and to promote an open dialogue on cohesion policy, to show its results at local level and the role in implementing the political priorities of the European Union. EU cohesion policy involves investing in national and regional programmes to boost growth, jobs, social integration and better cooperation.

The next local conference in the region is scheduled for January 19, in Yambol.
