Bulgaria successfully placed euro-denominated bonds with 10-year maturity worth EUR 1.5 billion, with an interest coupon of 4.5% and a yield of 4.78%, Finance Minister Rossitsa Velkova told journalists on Wednesday.
A total of 208 potential investors showed interest in the bond issue. Their bids totalled EUR 7.3 billion, Velkova said.
The money will be used for government debt payments aggregating BGN 3 billion (approximately EUR 1.5 billion), due on March 26. The settlement date is January 27.
The decision to place the bond issue was made on the evening of Friday, January 13, and just a few people knew about it. The placement could not be carried out on Monday, January 16, because the US stock market was closed, Velkova explained.
