site.btaEurostat: Bulgaria's 2021 Household Expenditures Back to Pre-pandemic Levels
In 2021, household consumption expenditure in the European Union increased by 4.2% compared with 2020. It remained 4.1% lower than in 2019, according to data published by Eurostat on Friday.
Household expenditure in Bulgaria in 2021 rose by 9.7% year on year. The country ranked sixth in the EU in terms of growth in household expenditures, thus recovering pre-pandemic expenditure levels from 2019. In 2020, Bulgarian households' expenditures decreased by 4.9% year on year, while they grew in 2019 by 5.1%.
In 2021, compared to 2019, Bulgaria registered an increase of 4.3%. The only country that registered a larger increase within the EU was Romania with 4.7% growth.
