At the end of the third quarter of 2022, the government debt to GDP ratio in the EU stood at 85.1%, compared with 86.4% at the end of the second quarter of 2022. In Bulgaria, the ratio increased to 23.1% from 21.3%, making this country the Member State with the second lowest government debt in the third quarter of 2022, show Eurostat data published on Monday.

Estonia had the lowest government debt to GDP ratio in the EU, 15.8%.
