"Apart from serving as the face of Bulgaria in foreign States, Bulgarian media abroad are also called upon to be a bulwark of Bulgarianness abroad," Dimiter Tzantchev, Head of Delegation of the European Commission in Israel, said here on Wednesday, greeting the participants in the 17th World Meeting of Bulgarian Media which is taking place in Israel from October 1 to 3.
He described the mission of these media as "exceedingly complicated and responsible".
Tzantchev noted that the forum brings together Bulgarians representing various expatriate communities worldwide, in addition to being a venue for Bulgarian media and Bulgarian journalists.
He sees the salvation of Bulgarian Jews from the Holocaust as the best possible occasion for Bulgarian communities abroad to rally together, for expat Bulgarians to feel more self-confident, for unity of action between the Bulgarian State and the expatriate communities, and for upgrading Bulgaria's prestige.
"The topic of the Bulgarian Jews' salvation is particularly significant against the background of the struggle against antisemitism which has been regaining momentum in recent years," the diplomat said. Antisemitism is spread mainly in the form of fake news. He recalled that the EU adopted a Strategy on Combating Antisemitism and Fostering Jewish Life in 2021.
Tzantchev acknowledged the importance of Jerusalem for Christianity, Judaism and Islam.
