The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) opened a national press club in Silistra on Sunday. Metropolitan of Durostorum Jacob blessed the new club.  BTA Director General Kiril Valchev, Silistra Regional Governor Nikolay Nedelchev and Silistra Mayor Yuliyan Naydenov cut the ribbon. Attending the ceremony were also representatives of the State and local authorities, heads of institutions, journalists and friends of BTA.

“BTA is opening its furthest from the capital national press club in Bulgaria. We’re opening it on a significant day for Silistra, on which we honour the memory of St. Dasius of Durostorum, who was the first martyr of Christ in today's Bulgarian lands, sentenced to death in 292,” Valchev said. He added that BTA will open press clubs next year in Kardzhali, Montana, Pernik, Razgrad and Smolyan. This will allow the national news agency to have a presence in all regional cities, Kiril Valchev noted.

Silistra Mayor Naydenov noted that his town has long deserved to have a BTA press club. “I am convinced that the good news will be the main news for the journalists working for BTA,” he said.

The opening of BTA press club in Silistra became possible after BTA’s Director General and Silistra’s Mayor signed an agreement on September 14, under which the municipality grants BTA a room at 2 Hristo Smirnenski Str.

BTA has press clubs in Sofia and most regional centres across Bulgaria, as well as abroad – in Bosilegrad (Serbia), Taraclia (Moldova), Skopje (Republic of North Macedonia) and Bucharest (Romania).
