A Bulgarian company has created the world's first fully biodegradable and non-flammable thermal and acoustic insulation material, the Professional Association of Robotics and Automation reported. The product, created through three years of experiments, research and testing, was patented last month.

According to information of the Sofia-based engineering company DECIBEL, the revolutionary material is in the form of a panel made out of 100% environmentally friendly raw materials which are not only entirely biodegradable but also enrich the soul in the process. The innovative product provides heat and sound insulation, absorbs sound, and is air and vapour permeable, antifungal, and extremely difficult to break, making it an ideal construction material. It can be glued to walls, ceilings and directly to under-floor insulation materials.

The company has not disclosed the composition of its innovation but says most are sourced from Europe and are completely renewable.

The new material is already being produced in the company's production facility in Botevgrad (Western Bulgaria) but a new factory will be built entirely for this purpose. An order from Vienna has already been received and interest in the product and the company has been expressed by several investment funds in the United States, Germany, and Bulgaria.

DECIBEL is the only producer of acoustic insulation systems in Bulgaria. Founded in Sofia in 2012 by a husband-and-wife duo, it now sells its products in over 42 countries across the globe.
