Single Emergency Number Receives over 5.3 Mln Calls in 2014, 58% Bogus


Sofia, February 11 (BTA) - In 2014, over 5,3 million calls were
made to the 112 emergency number, Malvina Birimirska of the 112
emergency service said on Wednesday.

European 112 Day is marked on Wednesday on the initiative of the
European Commission. It has been observed since 2009.

However, Stoyan Gramatikov, head of the 112 emergency service
with the Interior Ministry, told BTA that over 3 million of
these calls or 58 per cent were unnecessary. People, making
unnecessary calls would usually request information, related to
electricity and water supply, the weather, the road condition,
etc.

Birimirska recalled that false alarms may be sanctioned with up
to 20,000 leva.
