The technical specification for building a mobile electronic identification and electronic signing (BGID), developed by the Ministry of e-Government, has been published for public discussion on the Public Consultations Portal, the Ministry said in a press release. The goal is to create a mobile application that allows identification for the use of e-services, and with time to replace electronic signatures with electronic identification.
Minister of e-Government Bozhidar Bozhanov expressed the hope that the professional community will participate actively and give recommendations for improving the BGID. It is not typical to put technical specifications to public discussion, but given the importance of the electronic identification process for the overall development of e-government in Bulgaria, Bozhanov believes an example of transparency should be given from day one.
While building the electronic identification system, the Ministry will develop the necessary statutory amendments to allow the system’s functioning in conformity with the law. It is also planned to do a pilot upgrade to the systems of the National Customs Agency, the National Social Security Institute, the Interior Ministry, and the e-services portal of the Ministry of e-Government, in order to offer services accessible through the BGID.
