site.btaBelarus Not Participating in Events in Ukraine, Belarusian Ambassador in Sofia Says
“We categorically deny any insinuations that Belarus is involved in the events taking place in Ukraine”, Ambassador of Belarus in Sofia Alexandr Lukashevich said, quoted by his Embassy on Friday.
"The President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, has firmly stressed that Belarusian Armed Forces are not taking part in the Russian special operation”, Ambassador Lukashevich said.
“Furthermore, we did our best to prevent the escalation. More specifically, Ukraine’s military command held negotiations with its Belarusian counterparts. We proposed our Ukrainian partners to contact the Russian side, we were ready to cooperate, but our proposal was ignored”, Lukashevich argued.
“The Republic of Belarus has always been actively and consistently supporting the peaceful approach for settling the conflict in Southeastern Ukraine”, Lukashevich said, noting that Belarus is still of the opinion that the diplomatic means are a priority and is ready to cooperate for such a process in any way.
In his words, Belarus will not drag itself into the war. It is necessary to look for ways to avoid the bloodshed of brotherly Slavic peoples and the only right decision is to negotiate, Lukashevich added.
