Deputy Minister of Agriculture Momchil Nekov took part in a meeting of ministers from the Visegrad Group (the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia) and from Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia and Slovenia, the Ministry of Agriculture said on Saturday.

On the topic of sustainable food systems, most delegations stressed the importance of short supply chains as a key guarantor in food security crises. European Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski supported Bulgaria in the idea of ​​establishing logistics centres.

Regarding the crisis in Ukraine, all participants expressed their solidarity, stressing the need for joint and coordinated action to ensure the food security of Europe's population.

In a discussion on sustainable carbon cycles and the role of agriculture and soil protection in achieving climate neutrality goals, most countries, including Bulgaria, stressed that they do not have developed practices and methodologies for calculating the quantities of carbon captured and reducing greenhouse gases, but are working hard to introduce such models.
