site.btaPM Petkov: No Discriminatory Policies for Different Types of Refugees

Bulgaria is absolutely open and there are no discriminatory policies for the different types of refugees, Prime Minister Kiril Petkov said during Tuesday's extraordinary Parliamentary sitting, answering questions about the war in Ukraine and Bulgaria's actions in accepting refugees and providing humanitarian support.

"Providing humanitarian support to Ukrainians, including the Bulgarian minority, is a priority for Bulgaria," Petkov underscored. He recalled that a total of eight trucks with humanitarian aid have already left for Ukraine, loaded with essentials, including medicines from the Bulgarian state reserve.

Additional checkpoints will be opened along the border that will issue documents for temporary residence in Bulgaria. They will include a number that every Ukrainian, entering Bulgaria's territory can use as a document. The border checkpoints will notify the Tourism Ministry, which keeps a database of all hotels ready to receive refugees. Ukrainians will be directed to these hotels in coordination with the regional authorities, to avoid chaos," Petkov explained.

Those who use Bulgaria as a transit country will enter with a tourist visa and this country will not provide them with any type of support. An integration platform is developed for those seeking asylum, Petkov added.
