site.btaBulgaria to Increase Pollution Checks in Connection with Ukraine War

Pollution checks in connection with the war in Ukraine will be increased, Deputy Prime Minister for Climate Policy and Minister of Environment and Water Borislav Sandov told BTA on Tuesday. Sandov said radiation is within the usual levels. No pollution has been detected in the Black Sea and the tourist season is not at risk.

There is a procedure for monitoring possible radioactive contamination, according to Sandov. The data is being watched across Europe, not just in Bulgaria. The Environment and Water Ministry website has two links providing real-time information about background radiation in Bulgaria and Europe.

"The measuring stations in Ukraine are working," the Minister said, adding that steps have been taken to organize a response.
