The parliamentary Vazrazhdane party has launched a national campaign for collecting humanitarian aid for the Bulgarians in Ukraine, the secretary of the party's Sofia chapter, Deyan Nikolov, told a BTA-hosted news conference on Wednesday.
Collection of humanitarian aid has started in more than 50 population centres in Bulgaria, Nikolov said. The aid will then be sent to Taraclia in Moldova, which is near the town of Bolhrad in Ukraine. The Bulgarian community in Taraclia will ensure the delivery of the aid on to Ukraine. Nikolov said that Bulgarians fleeing the war in Ukraine have arrived in Moldova, so that humanitarian aid is needed there as well.
Nikolov noted that the Bulgarian community in Ukraine has not yet received aid from the deliveries announced by the Bulgarian government.
The party has received a letter from the Bulgarian community in Ukraine setting out what they need – mostly sanitary supplies, diapers, baby food, canned food, other foodstuffs, and medicines.
