President Rumen Radev expects the problem of issuing IDs to people from Bulgaria's historical diaspora to be solved urgently. He talked to reporters on Friday at the Danube Bridge border checkpoint where he visited a reception point opened by the local branch of the Bulgarian Red Cross where volunteers and municipal office workers help out Ukrainian refugees arriving in Bulgaria.

Radev thanked the city's Mayor, the Regional Governor, the municipal and regional administration, the Border Police and Customs officers, and the volunteers who make sure that Bulgaria does its humanitarian duty by people fleeing the war. The President also thanked all Bulgarians who opened their hearts and homes to help those in need.

Radev said he expects a flexible link to be established among the points where people in need enter the country, the local authorities, the municipalities in the interior and businesses which are ready to offer accommodation and jobs.

The President also said Bulgaria needs a single national crisis management system. An inspection of bomb shelters and of the plans for repairing them is under way, but this is the least problem, he said. "We need an effective system working in any situation, as well as the necessary regulations. The idea is to prepare the authorities, the crisis management points and plans, the work models and their adaptation, and to train the population what to do in a crisis situation."
