Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Assen Vassilev took part in the regular meeting of the ECOFIN Council in Brussels on Tuesday, which discussed the economic consequences of sanctions against Russia over its military aggression against Ukraine, the Ministry of Finance said.

"Bulgaria supports the sanctions imposed on the Russian Federation in all areas. We are ready to discuss the adoption of additional restrictions in order to end the war against the Ukrainian people. (...) We support the proposal for joint public procurement at the EU level for key energy and agricultural products, which will prevent a situation where Member States are bidding against each other. A coordinated approach is needed so that everyone can benefit. The EU must work hard to overcome its energy dependence on Russia," the Bulgarian finance minister said in a statement.
