Health Minister Asena Serbezova will take part in a High-level Meeting on Health and Migration in the WHO European Region, scheduled for March 17 and 18 in Istanbul, Turkey, her Ministry said on Thursday.
At the forum, hosted by WHO/Europe, health ministers and representatives of the 53 Member States of the WHO European Region will meet to discuss strategic priorities for health and migration beyond 2022. Representatives of refugee and migrant groups, partner organizations and the WHO African and Eastern Mediterranean regions will be involved to encourage participatory dialogue and interregional collaboration as part of a whole-of-route approach.
In another press release, the Health Ministry said that Serbezova has been nominated for Vice President of the 75th Session of the World Health Assembly, which will take place in May 2022. The proposal was made by WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge during a sitting of the Standing Committee of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe.
Every regular session of the World Health Assembly elects a president and five vice presidents (representatives of the six regions of WHO). The Vice Presidents have the same powers and duties as the Assembly President when acting for the President.
