Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Assen Vassilev hosted a meeting with Greek Infrastructure and Transport Minister Kostas Karamanlis, the Finance Ministry said here on Thursday.

The development of transport and energy connectivity between Bulgaria and Greece was the central topic of discussion between Vassilev, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Grozdan Karadzhov, Ministers of Transport and Communications Nikolay Sabev and of Energy Alexander Nikolov, and the Greek delegation, headed by Minister Karamanlis.

Assen Vassilev emphasized Bulgaria's participation in the concession procedure for the port of Alexandroupolis. He stressed that ensuring connectivity will help Bulgaria improve its supply chain and broaden its access to alternative energy sources. Minister Karamanlis noted that Bulgaria will play a key role in the procedure by ensuring a connection between the Black and Aegean seas.

The discussion also focused on improving transport connectivity between Bulgaria, Greece and Romania through the construction of highways and railways. This will increase the opportunities for faster movement of people and goods and improve relations between EU countries, according to the Ministry of Finance.
