A total of 58 million leva under European projects have been used for illegal distribution of salaries in the National Railway Infrastructure Company (NRIC), said Transport Minister Nikolay Sabevto to journalists on Friday in Nova Zagora. Sabev was there to  participate in a public discussion on the fate of the railway station builidng, which is over a hundred years old.

The Minister pointed out that this one of the most striking violations found during an inspection by the Ministry of Transport regarding the implementation of European-funded projects. ''A large percentage of projects will not be completed on time, there are delayed sections, many unfulfilled commitments,'' said Sabev.

He added that the inspection began on December 13 last year, but inspectors are having difficulty because "people are not very helpful in providing information". The violators will be handed over to the Bulgarian and the European Prosecutor's Office, and all detected violations will be made public. "Surely everything will be uncovered and everyone who violated the interests of the state will be held accountable," Nikolay Sabev said.
