In a statement sent to the media on Monday six former defence ministers said that Bulgaria should quickly join the all-European and Euro-Atlantic response to the aggression against Ukraine and "join in the defence supplies to the best of this country's abilities". The six former defence ministers who signed the statement are Boiko Noev, Nikolai Svinarov, Anyu Angelov, Todor Tagarev, Velizar Shalamanov, and Nikolai Nenchev.
"We call on the MPs to forthwith open consultations on the passage of a resolution by Parliament to mandate the executive power to join the all-European effort to strengthen Ukraine's defence. This can be done in the quickest possible way with the available resources of the Bulgarian army, without the need to include main combat platforms and armaments. The enterprises of the Bulgarian defence industry should be assigned the task of the timely replenishment of the respective combat sets to guarantee the combat worthiness of this country's armed forces," the statement reads.
