Former Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov told the media that disgraced oligarch Vassil Bojkov's extortion allegations are untrue, after being questioned as a witness by an investigator at the city's prosecutor's office in pre-trial extortion proceedings.
The topic of the interrogation was the testimony of ''Witness Petkov'', Goranov added, meaning Prime Minister Kiril Petkov, who, according to Goranov, had initiated everything so far - the arrests of the opposition leader and all illegal actions related to it. "We clarified all allegations related to illegal actions," the former finance minister commented on the interrogation, adding that there was no big and significant difference in the range of questions asked to him now by the police.
"I do not want to judge the State for the stupidity of some," Goranov said when asked if he would seek his legal rights in connection with his detention by the Interior Ministry at the European Court of Human Rights. According to him, "Witness Petkov" is involved in an attempt to settle accounts with the opposition at a time when there are far greater crises in the country.
Earlier today, GERB leader Boyko Borisov was questioned as a witness, and publicist Sevdelina Arnaudova also testified.
On March 17, Borisov, Goranov and Arnaudova were detained for 24 hours in connection with a case of extortion by the Interior Ministry related to Vassil Bojkov. The first action taken in the investigation was the questioning of Prime Minister Kiril Petkov as a witness. On March 18, the three were released without charge. The prosecution service ruled that the actions of the Ministry of Interior in the investigation were flawed because they should have been carried out by an investigator and therefore some of them will be repeated. This necessitates the re-examination of all persons whose testimony may contribute to clarifying the circumstances of the case, the prosecution service said.
