site.btaDemocratic Bulgaria Co-Chair Atanassov: Parliamentary Majority Will Back Bulgaria's Rendering Military, Technical Aid to Ukraine
In a televised interview on Sunday, the co-leader of the power-sharing Democratic Bulgaria group, Gen. Atanas Atanassov, said that Bulgaria will render military and technical aid to Ukraine, as proposed by Democratic Bulgaria. The proposal will be voted in the National Assembly next week, and the parliamentary majority will back it, he told bTV.
For now only the power-sharing BSP for Bulgaria will not support the proposal but the so-called floating majorities in Parliament will be used, it transpires from the interview.
Under the proposal, which Democratic Bulgaria submitted to Parliament on April 1, the National Assembly mandates the Council of Ministers to provide military and technical aid to Ukraine. The aid must match Ukraine's needs and Bulgaria's capabilities. It will be funded by the State budget, and the EU and NATO special funds for Ukraine.
In Gen. Atanassov's words, Bulgaria needs to make a decision on the matter to be part of the Western world that supports democracy. In this situation there should be no division by party: every MP should vote in accordance to their voters' will, he argued.
