site.btaSofia Municipal Councillors Propose Space in front of Russian Embassy to Be Named Heroes of Ukraine

Municipal councillors of GERB-UDF and Democratic Bulgaria have proposed that the space in front of the Russian Embassy in Sofia be named "The Heroes of Ukraine". The Sofia Town Hall said that currently the space has no name. 

The councillors say that Sofia may become part of a global initiative for support to Ukraine through renaming of localities near Russian embassies and thus join Athens, Washington, Vilnius, Copenhagen, Lisbon, London, Oslo, Prague, Riga, Tirana, Toronto where such decisions are being considered or have already been made. Squares in Washington, Vilnius, Prague and Kyiv have been named after Russia politician Boris Nemtsov. "It is time Sofia showed its support for those citizens in Russia who dream and fight for freedom and democracy in their own country and pay with their lives for that," the report said.

The proposal is to be voted by the Sofia Municipal Council.
