Despite the rain, people gathered in central Sofia on Thursday for a peaceful demonstration to express their support for Ukraine in the military conflict that started on February 24. People filled up the space around the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and called for a ceasefire. The demonstration, organized on Facebook, was mottoed "We're Not Neutral. Some of the participants demanded for Bulgaria to provide military assistance to Ukraine.
Bulgarian and Ukrainian flags and signs calling for peace could be seen in the crowd. The plan was for the procession to reach the Russian Cultural Information Centre and then head on towards the Bulgarian National TV's building on Thursday evening, with the final destination being the controversial Monument to the Soviet Army, where protestors planned on lighting candles and observing a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the war in Ukraine.
