Preserving the potential of Eastern European transport corridors and taking measures to prevent a humanitarian crisis were among the topics Bulgarian President Rumen Radev and his Romanian counterpart Klaus Iohannis discussed in a phone call on Wednesday, Radev’s press secretariat said.
The two heads of State noted that Ukraine is one of the largest exporters of wheat in Europe, and having its ports blocked hinders export, which in turn poses the threat of a food crisis for a number of countries.
The two also concurred that the EU Member States must join forces to aid the millions of Ukrainian refugees who have fled their war-torn country. Avoiding a humanitarian crisis in Ukraine requires constant aid and shipping essential commodities, Radev and Iohannis pointed out.
Radev invited Iohannis to pay a visit to Bulgaria at his convenience.
