site.btaDefence Minister Confers with Egyptian Ambassador in Sofia
Bulgarian Defence Minister Dragomir Zakov here here on Thursday with Egypt's Ambassador in Sofia Khalid Ibrahim Emara, Zakov's Ministry said in a press release.
The sides expressed their intentions to maintain and build on the fine contacts between the two defence ministries. This will be exemplified yet again by the participation of an Egyptian delegation in the HEMUS International Defence Equipment and Services Exhibition, which will take place in Plovdiv from June 1 to 4, 2022. Emara described HEMUS as a very good platform for the promotion of cooperation in the field of defence products and high technology in the sector and as a venue for interaction between defence officials, business executives and researchers.
At the meeting, Zakov highlighted the challenges facing Eastern Europe that have arisen mainly as a result of the crisis after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. He stressed the importance of unity and cooperation among NATO member countries as an adequate response to that crisis. In his discussion with the Ambassador, the Defence Minister voiced concern over military operations against civilian areas in Ukraine and noted the scope of devastation he had witnessed during a visit to that country as part of a Bulgarian governmental delegation.
