site.btaEducation Minister: 523 Ukrainians Enrolled in Bulgarian Schools

Approached by journalists here on Thursday, Education and Science Minister Nikolay Denkov said that integrating Ukrainian children in the Bulgarian education system is not a problem as long as they meet two conditions: first, they are willing to be integrated; second, they have been administered all required vaccines as per the Bulgarian immunization calendar. So far, 523 children have been enrolled in Bulgarian schools after having met these criteria.

“In the autumn we are ready to enrol 20,000 Ukrainian children without a problem,” Denkov said and added that the budget will be updated, if necessary, although that is not the case for the time being.

He specified that the vast majority of Ukrainian children are studying under their country’s online programme.

According to Denkov, Ukrainians can verify how they can enrol their children in Bulgarian schools on his Ministry’s website.

“There is no directive about opening Ukrainian schools [here], however five of our ministries [the Ministries of Education, of Labour and Social Policy, of Finance, of Environment, and of Health] are working very seriously on the so-called cooperatives and groups. The main problem we have to solve is the financing from EU funds,” Denkov said.
