Born in Veliko Tarnovo (North Central Bulgaria) on May 20, 1964. Holds a PhD in Sports Science from the National Sports Academy. Lecheva's achievements in sport shooting put her among the most decorated Bulgarian athletes of all time (silver medals at the Olympics in Seoul in 1988 and the Olympics in Barcelona in 1992, five-time world champion, eight-time European champion, four-time World Cup winner, multiple world record holder). In 2007, Lecheva was voted Shooter of the Twentieth Century. Honorary citizen of Veliko Tarnovo. An MP in the 39th, 40th, 44th, and 45th National Assemblies. President of the State Agency for Youth and Sports (predecessor of the Youth and Sports Ministry).
