The Bulgarian athletes at the 2022 European Aquatics Championships in Rome reached one final and seven semi-finals in the swimming portion of the event, which is ending on Wednesday. The only final was reached in the 50m butterfly category by Josif Miladinov, who ranked 7th and broke the national record twice.

Miladinov also reached the semi-finals of his favourite event - the 100m butterfly, but failed to qualify for the final.

Lyubomir Epitropov swam in two semis - the 100m and 200m breaststroke. Gabriela Georgieva was among the fastest 16 in the 200m backstroke. Antani Ivanov and Petar Mitsin reached the semi-finals in the 200m butterfly, but failed to proceed any further. While this was a success for the 16-year-old Mitsin, who was competing in his first big contest, Ivanov's team had hopes that he would proceed to the final.

Nineteen-year-old Tonislav Sabev had a good competition, reaching the 50m breaststroke semi-final and breaking the national record with 27.58 seconds.

The men's 4x200m freestyle relay comprised of Antani Ivanov, Petar Mitsin, Kaloyan Levterov and Yordan Yanchev also set a new national record with 7:30.06, beating the old record by nearly 12 seconds. The Bulgarian quartet finished 9th.

Antani Ivanov's time of 1:49.00 in the relay was a new national best in this category.
