site.btaChief State Health Inspector: Next School Year Needs Less Strict COVID Measures

The upcoming school year will not require as strict restrictions nor pre-testing the children with COVID-19 saliva tests, Chief State Health Inspector Angel Kunchev said in an interview for bTV early Saturday. Kunchev clarified that when a COVID case gets detected in school, the response will affect much fewer people, and only the class where the case occurred will switch to distance learning.

According to the Health Inspector, only with a much wider spread of the disease would an entire school be affected. "These are the measures in general for the entire school year. Of course, they will be fine-tuned," he said.

Kunchev pointed out that the latest incidence figures are optimistic. "Within a week, all regions emerged from stage two. We also got the first two regions in stage zero, with very low incidence," said Kunchev. He was hopeful that these are the last manifestations of the virus.

When asked about the October snap elections, the Health Inspector said that instructions are being prepared for the holding of peaceful elections under the pandemic.
