Bulgarian Member of the European Parliament Ilhan Kyuchyuk (Movement for Rights and Freedom/Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe) on Thursday received a citation from the Ukrainian Government.

The Embassy of Ukraine in Bulgaria expresses gratitude to Kyuchyuk "for a significant contribution in upholding the principles of international law and providing humanitarian aid to citizens of Ukraine who suffered as a result of the Russian Federation's aggression against Ukraine," the citation reads. It was handed to the MEP by Ukraine's Ambassador in Sofia Vitaliy Moskalenko.

"The Ukrainian citizens deserve the greatest award and recognition for their courage in standing up for their rights and preserving the integrity of their State. I am honoured to receive this citation. It acknowledges not just myself but also the party I represent. Our support for the Ukrainian people remains undeterred," Kyuchyuk said in response.

After Russia attacked Ukraine on February 24, 2022, he was the first Bulgarian politician to visit Kyiv, Bucha and Irpin. On his own behalf and on behalf of the European Liberals, the MEP has repeatedly expressed full support for Ukraine's sovereignty, territorial integrity and European perspective.

Kyuchyuk has travelled to Ukraine twice for high-level meetings with government ministers, Verkhovna Rada Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk, Deputy Prime Minister for Ukraine's European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna and other Ukrainian officials.
