Bulgaria is sending additional humanitarian aid to Ukraine and granting nearly BGN 590,000 to several international organisations. The decision was made by the Council of Ministers at its weekly meeting Wednesday and was announced by the government's press service.
According to the government decision, the Ministry of Defence, through the Armed Forces, will provide the Government of Ukraine with winter clothing and footwear free of charge. The donation is being made in response to a request received from the Ukrainian side to provide medical equipment and supplies, warm clothing, and equipment.
"The Ministry of Defence shares the belief that one of the main priorities in any armed conflict is the provision of adequate care for citizens. The quantities indicated are from the long-term stockpile of clothing and footwear for the needs of the Bulgarian Army and are fully serviceable," said the government press office.
In another decision, the Council of Ministers approved the allocation of BGN 586,751 under Bulgaria's Official Development Assistance. The money will be distributed as follows:
BGN 78,233 to the International Committee of the Red Cross for people with disabilities in the form of humanitarian aid for Iraq; BGN 48,896 to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East; BGN 215,142 to the World Food Programme in the form of humanitarian aid for Algeria, Pakistan and Nigeria; BGN 88,013 to the International Atomic Energy Agency for the implementation of the Zoonotic Disease Integrated Action project; BGN 97,792 to the European Endowment for Democracy earmarked for the Republic of North Macedonia; BGN 58,675 to the core budget of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
