The tense situation in the Black Sea region in the context of the war in Ukraine was high on the agenda of a meeting Tuesday between Bulgarian caretaker Foreign Minister Nikolay Milkov and Lazar Comanescu, Secretary General of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization (BSEC), Milkov's Ministry said on its website.
Comanescu was a guest of honour at the meeting of the foreign ministers of the member states of the Central European Initiative hosted by Sofia on November 6 and 7.
At their meeting on Tuesday, Milkov and Comanescu concurred that BSEC can contribute in improving the situation in the region by the practical projects it implements.
Comanescu praised Bulgaria's constructive approach in the work of BSEC, in particular its role in restoring the working group for exchange of statistical data and economic information after a long period of inaction. He urged for a new Economic Agenda of BSEC to be fundamental for the next decade.
Milkov described Bulgaria's participation in BSEC as an important element of this country's regional policy directed towards strengthening the trust, stability and security in the broader Black Sea region. He said that the EU is interested in supporting projects intended to stabilize the Black Sea region, taking into account the current geo-strategic context.
