site.btaContinue the Change: We Are Disturbed by Incident, Government Should Send Permanent Representative to NATO
"We are extremely concerned about the incident that has happened in Poland," Daniel Lorer MP of Continue the Change commented for the press the Tuesday missile blast in Poland. He said the government must speed up the process of appointing a permanent representative to NATO.
The position has been vacant since Dragomir Zakov was appointed Defence Minister in the government of Kiril Petkov in March 2022.
Asked whether he expects the future ambassador to NATO to be former Foreign Minister Teodora Genchovska, Lorer said that it was for the government to decide. "In such situations it is extremely important that we have direct contact with the NATO bodies," he said.
Lorer also said: "There are no risks in Bulgaria. You know that at the moment the situation is under control, there is no cause for alarm, such things happen when there is a conflict between neighbouring countries, you know that Poland borders Ukraine, so at the moment we have nothing to worry about. […] There is an urgent need to rearm our Armed Forces and this has nothing to do with this incident. It is 30 years overdue. It is time to get rid of Soviet-era equipment and have modern equipment that is compatible with NATO's."
