U20 women’s long jump world champion Plamena Mitkova was named Bulgarian Athlete of the Year 2022, according to the traditional poll of the Athletics magazine.

The survey was conducted among the magazine editorial team, sports journalists covering athletics and other experts in the field. Mitkova received an additional vote from the fans of the Athletics magazine.

Mitkova turned 18 on September 18, having previously won the title in the long jump at the World Athletics U20 Championships, held in Cali, Colombia, between August 1 and 6, 2022. In the final, the athlete from Plovdiv achieved a personal best of 6.66 meters, earning the gold medal.
