Refugees from Ukraine are presenting national dishes, arts and traditions during the holidays at a Christmas market in Sofia, said UNICEF, who are supporting the initiative.
Over 20 small Ukrainian businesses and entrepreneurs, cooks, bakers and craftsmen will present their products over the course of two weeks starting on December 19 at the Christmas market on Sofia's Slaveykov Square.
UNICEF supports the initiative as part of the Christmas Is Possible for Every Child campaign, which aims to make the voice of the Ukrainian families seeking asylum in Bulgaria heard, encourage their integration and solidarity within the Bulgarian public.
"After being away from their country for almost ten months, Ukrainian families are doing everything possible to integrate into their receptive communities by learning Bulgarian, enrolling their children in schools, are looking for jobs or starting small businesses, Christina de Bruin of UNICEF Bulgaria said. "Thanks to the warm welcome and support in Bulgaria, the refugee children can celebrate Christmas here in peace, while our thoughts are with all children who live in war-torn places. As a sign of gratitude for the warm reception, the Ukrainian refugees are motivated to show Bulgarians their appreciation through their food and culture," she said.
In addition to traditional food, visitors will be able to purchase handmade jewelry, toys, Christmas tree decorations, home goods, etc.
