Ivan Minkov, an ethnic Bulgarian from Ukraine, was posthumously awarded the Ukrainian Order for Courage, 3rd Class, the Military Administration of Bolhrad District wrote on its website on Friday. The honour was received by his mother in his native village of Krynychne, Bolhrad District.
Minkov was a driver in a mortar battery which was part of a mechanized infantry battalion. He was killed very early in the Ukraine war, on February 26, 2022, during an artillery attack on Chernihiv.
"On June 15, under a decree of the President of Ukraine, Bulgarian Ivan Minkov was awarded the Order for Courage, 3rd Class (posthumously) for the personal courage and bravery he showed in defending the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine," says the decree, part of which was read out by Bolhrad District State Administration Chairman Gennadiy Bambura as he presented the accolade.
The participants in the ceremony observed a minute of silence for Minkov. People laid flowers at a memorial plaque for him at the entrance to the Krynychne Comprehensive School.
