Mariya Gabriel, the European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, visited the Technical University of Sofia on Thursday as the nation's largest technical education establishment was playing host to the Sofia Week of the European University of Technology (EUt+). Gabriel met with the Academic Board to present the European Commission's vision of the development of education, research and innovation.

She said: "Cooperation, the sharing of experience and knowledge is the cornerstone of the EU policy of higher education, research and innovation. The Technical University of Sofia and EUt+ are trailblazers and innovators with a mission in this field." According to her, the functioning of EUt+ is in full unison with the EU innovation programme, which is aimed at building connected ecosystems among universities, companies, NGOs, national and local authorities.

European university alliances, which already number 44 and encompass 340 higher education establishments, are expected to work out the legal framework for mutual recognition of the qualifications of university degree holders, Gabriel said.

She also met with the rectors of the eight partner universities within EUt+, who briefed her on the results of their joint work.
