site.btaBulgaria Receives BGN 21,318,000 Aid for Ukrainian Refugees

Bulgaria has received BGN 21,318,000 for emergency aid, allocated by the European Commission with a Decision of October 28, the Interior Ministry announced Friday. 

The funds are provided to support the initial reception and temporary accommodation of displaced citizens from Ukraine in the period between February 24, 2022 and February 23, 2023 with the support of the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund 2021 - 2027. The grant agreement between the European Commission and the Interior Ministry was signed on December 14, 2022. In the framework of its implementation, the Interior Ministry and the Tourism Ministry signed an operational agreement for the provision of funds amounting to BGN 12,322,000, which will be used to reimburse expenditure from the 2022 state budget.

In view of the requirement under the European Commission Decision that part of the funds allocated to Bulgaria, totaling BGN 6,395,000 - or 30% of the assistance, be directed to municipalities and NGOs, seven operational grant agreements totaling BGN 5,327,000 have been signed and two more agreements worth BGN 125,000 are to be signed.

To absorb the remaining BGN 943,000 for NGOs and municipalities, there is an opportunity to apply for funding under an open call for proposals.
