Refusal by motorists to be drug-tested will be criminalized under amendments to the Penal Code voted on first reading on Friday. The amendments are sponsored by GERB-UDF.

The refusal will be considered equivalent to drug use and will be punished accordingly.

A second set of amendments aims to remove the control card that goes with the drivers' licence to reduce the administrative burden.

A bill, sponsored by Vazrazhdane, introduces harsher penalties for violations when the motor vehicles crosses into areas for pedestrians such as pavements, public transport stops.
