site.btaUPDATED Minister Stoyanov Takes Part in Ukraine Defence Contact Group Session in Germany
Bulgarian Defence Minister Dimitar Stoyanov Friday took part in a session of the US-led Ukraine Defence Contact Group at Ramstein Air Base, Germany. Bulgaria was also represented by the Chief of Defence, Admiral Emil Eftimov, and Deputy Defence Minister Teodora Genchovska.
Stoyanov informed the participants in the session that Bulgaria provides Ukraine with military and military-technical assistance in implementation of a National Assembly resolution of November 3, 2022. Since the start of the Russian invasion in Ukraine, the Bulgarian Defence Ministry has delivered through national transport means humanitarian aid and military personal protective equipment worth a total of BGN 7 million, Stoyanov specified.
He reiterated Bulgaria’s readiness to participate in the training mission of European Union Assistance Mission Ukraine (EUMAM) in implementation of the National Assembly’s resolution. The mission is aimed at providing assistance in Ukraine’s recovery and European integration. The national contribution to the mission envisages the participation of Bulgarian service members from the Armed Forces in the Military Planning and Conduct Capability of the EU’s Common Security and Defense Policy in Belgium, as well as in the Combined Arms Training Command in Poland and/or in the Special Training Command in Germany. It is proposed that military medical orderlies from the Ukrainian Armed Forces prepare in Bulgaria each year.
On the sidelines of the forum in Ramstein, Minister Stoyanov held meetings with his Swedish counterpart Pal Jonson and with representatives of France’s Ministry of Armed Forces. The talks focused on the Bulgarian Armed Forces’ modernization.
The Bulgarian Defence Minister also held talks with his counterparts Mariusz Blaszczak of Poland and Oleksii Reznikov of Ukraine.
