Radoslav Yankov, the best Bulgarian snowboard racer, fell just short of qualifying for the finals in the first parallel slalom for the World Cup in Bansko. Yankov placed 17th in qualification, just 17 hundredths away from the 16th place, which was taken by Stefan Baumeister (Germany).

The fastest qualifier was Arvid Auner (Austria), who beat Dario Caviezel (Switzerland) by 15 hundredths. They were followed by three Italians - Marc Hofer, Edwin Coratti and Mirko Felicetti. One of the biggest names in world snowboarding, Benjamin Karl, dropped out after the first attempt, making a series of mistakes that meant he couldn't make it to the second run.

The other Bulgarian representatives in the men's category - Dimitar Ganichev, Alexander Krasnyak and Mihail Krasnyak dropped out after the first run on the Tomba slope. Only the top 16 times from both courses are continuing the race.

In the women's race, Teodora Pencheva made two decent descents and stayed 21st in her first international race in a long time. She was 5.65 seconds off 16th place. The 40-year-old Pencheva got off to a very good start in her last attempt on the course and was even running 11th at one point but slowed at the end and dropped to 21st. The qualification was won by Julia Tsog (SWE), who beat Tsubaki Miki (JPN) by 53 hundredths. Ramona Theresia Hofmeister (Germany) was third, 58 hundredths behind.
