site.btaCommittee to Initiate National Referendum Petition for Presidential Republic
An initiative committee, headed by There Is Such a People (TISP) leader Slavi Trifonov, will begin Tuesday, January 24, to collect signatures in support of a national referendum for convening a Grand National Assembly to decide a change in the form of government from parliamentary of a presidential republic. On Monday, initiative committee representatives, among them former TISP MPs, submitted a notification to the National Assembly Chair that they will start collecting signatures for a referendum.
The question in the petition will be: "Do you support the holding of elections for a Grand National Assembly to resolve the issues of changes in the form of government from a parliamentary to a presidential republic?", Ivaylo Valchev, former TISP MP, explained. He argued that now is the right time for a referendum and that TISP have taken time to formulate the question so that it meets the Constitution and legal norms.
Within a few days, TISP will give a big press conference with the participation of Trifonov.
